wellbeing wednesday's rainbow challenge
Below are the winners from each year group's entries for the rainbow inspired assemblage challenge. We were blown away by everyone's creativity and dedication to this! Entries showed students using nature, food, fabric, stationary, toiletries and even animals in their temporary artworks! These winners each showed us something special however, and went above and beyond to build amazing temporary installations and photograph them in the best way possible. Well done!!!!! What a tribute to our NHS!
We have a radicle rainbow hand from Y12, a pair of brilliantly bold brothers from Y10 and Y8, a thirst quenching tribute from Y8, a perfect wheel of almost everything from Y9, a tasty looking piece of toast from Y11, a carefully constructed rainbow from Y9 and a faithful reminder from Y7.

YEAR 7
charles le bron inspiration
henri matisse
Students taking inspiration from an artist who defied the odds and worked through a debilitating illness.
"An artist must never be a prisoner of himself, a prisoner of style, a prisoner of reputation, a prisoner of success, etc." - Matisse

What do you think Matisse meant by this statement?
Matisse may have meant that artists must not be trapped in a hole of ignorance and must be able to take other painters and critics’ ideas and make it better according to what they say. We could learn to never stop what you love, even if it means altering how you do it. - Year 7 student |
archimboldo
Fantastic portraits created from anything but the usual!
Brilliant examples of how to analyse the work of an artist and justify your opinions!
YEAR 8
op art
Prepare to feel dizzy. You are not actually looking at a zebra in a washing machine (but it does feel like it).

MIMICKING the masters
Students striving to recreate some very famous masterpieces.
Outstanding examples of in-depth analysis of an artist and their work.
YEAR 10
individual approaches to our surfaces unit
A double page spread dedicated to investigating drawing techniques ... WOW
Spot the difference: one of these is a printed picture of a sculpture by Barbara Hepworth and one is a masterful tonal drawing by an exceptionally talented student. Can you tell which is which? The art department is struggling!
An example of a students' study into Todd Ford. What a dramatic double page that is sure to catch any examiner's eye:
Year 10 are working hard to continue their investigations into surfaces. These students are showing off their outstanding tonal drawing skills by closely examining sculptures:
An exceptional analysis of ceramic artist Pat Short:
An in-depth interrogation of Anthony Caro's practice:
YEAR 11
Year 11 really have been put to the ultimate test during this school closure period. Impressively, despite the uncertainty of their examinations many students continued to create amazing outcomes at home. Here are some of the most successful:
