In years to come, people will ask what you did during the great lockdown – and what will you say? Creativity benefits from isolation. Ttricky circumstances can often be a starting point for a really interesting project. The Turner Prize-winning artist Keith Tyson has launched #isolationartschool on Instagram, aiming to act as an online hub for ‘projects, lessons and tips by artists to help people get creative while housebound’.

What equipment do you need?
A sketchbook
Art materials such as pens, pencils and paints

In theory, all you need is something to create artwork on and something to create artwork with. Although it would be ideal if you could get hold of a sketchbook and art materials such as paints and brushes, here are some examples of ways to work around it if you aren't able to get hold of these resources.
These portraits have been painted using beetroot juice, turmeric dissolved in water, and coffee! The file shows several ways to make your own sketchbook at home without the need for specialist equipment.
